Letters and methods of writing a Letter
Letter is a typed or hand written form of message, sent to a recipient through post or mail. Not so long before, letter used to be a source of communication between to people and such conversational letters are called informal letters. But in today’s world such letters r no longer used due to increased use of technology. The art of writing a letter today is assumed as a skill, as not everyone can write letters perfectly. In today’s world letters only exist in formal form which is only written for business or studying purposes.
Informal letters : such letters are sent personally to someone like relatives or friends. These letters do not follow any kind of pattern nor is kept professional.
Formal Letters : such letters are written professionally with a certain pattern always followed.
Formal letters can be written for parties invitations,writing to apply for a job in a company , official business letters and social letters.
Methods of writing a letter :
There are 3 methods of writing a letter .
1. Block letter
2. Semi-block letter
3. Full block letter
4. Modified block letter
1. Semi - Block letter format : A block letter format starts with the normal Heading (sender’s address and other information) on the right of the page while the Insight address (recipient’s address and other information) is written on the right of the page . Then comes the subject of the letter and after that, the salutations. Now after salutations the body of the letter starts from a tab space distance (5 spaces ) from the left of the page , under the salutation. The body of the letter ends with a complimentary closure. This complimentary close is where the sender signs and this is situated on the right of the page.
2. Block letter format : A block letter format is exactly just as a semi-block letter but there are no tab spaces when starting the body.
3. Full-block letter format : A full-block letter format is basically a block letter i.e. it has no spaces what so anywhere, but the whole format of the letter starts from the left of the page. Heading, insight address, body of the letter and the complimentary close , all of these start at the left of the page .
4. Modified-block letter format : A modified- block letter format is different from all of the above, because here the headings start at the middle of the page while the insight address at the left of the page. The body of the letter starts from the left of the page after salutations without any tab spaces but the complimentary close of the letter is written in the middle of the page .
NOTE : One can attach any files with the letters if they needed to do so.
